What is Dance/Movement Therapy (DMT)?

The American Dance Therapy Association defines Dance/Movement Therapy as “as the psychotherapeutic use of movement to promote emotional, social, cognitive and physical integration of the individual.”

About Me...

Driven by a passion for human expression, I have dedicated my career to supporting transformative experiences through mind-body connections. I earned my E-RYT 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training certification in 2012 and continue to expand my expertise through ongoing training while maintaining a private yoga instruction practice.

This commitment to understanding the holistic relationship between physical movement and emotional wellbeing led me to pursue a Master's Degree in Dance/Movement Therapy (DMT) from Pratt Institute, which I completed in 2016.

My professional practice is founded on core values of respect for individual identities and cultural backgrounds. I excel at meeting clients where they are—both verbally and non-verbally—creating engaging therapeutic environments where we can work collaboratively toward their goals with integrity. In addition to my DMT credentials, I am a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), further enhancing my ability to provide comprehensive support.

What does a DMT session look like?

Sessions are tailored to individual client needs and presentation. The therapeutic approach varies in intensity and modality—some sessions incorporate continuous movement throughout, while others may focus on specific gestures or postures. In certain cases, intentional stillness becomes the therapeutic movement intervention itself.

The practice integrates multi-modal therapeutic techniques, drawing from drama, music, and art therapy as appropriate. These complementary approaches are implemented based on careful assessment of client needs, preferences, and therapeutic objectives to ensure optimal outcomes.
